Friends – The frosting to life’s giant cupcake

If you’ve read Spud you’d have a pretty good idea of the people I’m about to describe. We aren’t the crazy 8, there’s seven of us and I think they’re relatively tame compared to us.

Without further ado I’d love you to meet my friends:

Zazu, our hopeless romantic [although she’ll never admit it she’s a sucker for love] with an addiction for bad boys. She’d be the equivalent of every male superhero except with flowing hair and 6 inch heels.

Thing 1 and thing 2 , they’re born on the same day, in the same hospital and they have the same name BUT they aren’t twins, they’re not even related! Once you get to know them they’re the two most unlikely people on the planet, sure they’re both dedicated bookworms but while the one prefers playing the damsel in distress dedicating her days to love letters, the other will probably be the one busting our previously mentioned Princess from her tower while planning world domination of course. While #1 is allergic to hugs, #2 gives the most bone crushing, warm embrace.

Let me then introduce you to BooYumDJmZzaLer, no this isn’t the mispronunciation of a 2 year old, this is in fact my dear friend who is obsessed with the band members of One Direction. She’s gone for lunch to Nandos with Niall, sang duets with Harry, baked a bat man cake with Liam and double dated with Louis and Eleanor , most importantly she’s become Mrs. Zayn Malik and yes, before you object all of these have in fact happened… In her dreams!

Joined at her hip is Fish with busting artistic potential a sense of humor as dry as the Sahara and the ability to speak her mind, this one is lethal although some might differ if you saw her in a dress.

Lastly, well actually she arrived first, is the girl I met when I was just seven years old. The brains of our entourage, a combination of Einstein and Spencer Hastings . Our sincere and kind, crazy Mad Hatter.

And me. Well, the people who know me best are the above lot, but after reading this article I shudder to think what their descriptions of moi would be!

Passionate​ly Pursuing Paris

Audrey Hepburn was quoted to have said “Paris is always a good idea” I couldn’t agree with her more , although my shrinking bank account may not.

Over the past few years my yearning for the city of love has increased rapidly, I can barely look at a picture of this spectacular city without being consumed by wanderlust. I’ve passed the point of obsession, covering my bedroom walls in posters and quotes related to Paris. My Sweet 16 was themed ‘A night in Paris’, and as a prank I received 2 expired tickets to Charles du Guille.

I am on the verge of fainting every time I hear someone speaking french, “I like french men, because even when they insult you they say it so nicely.” My Sunday mornings are incomplete with a chocolate croissant and a cup of tea.

Natalie Lloyd said “I like the Eiffel tower because it looks like steal and lace.” Being the niece of a fashion designer I’m well aware of the exclusivity and transcendence of Parisian fashion. Major names like Coco Chanel, Christian Louboutin, Givenchy, Nina Ricci and Yves Saint Laurent were created on the cobble stone streets of Paris. Just fantasizing about strolling down the Avenue des Champs-Elysees [with a purse full of Euros!] gives me chills and an overdose of excitement.

With a rich history and a strong past, France is the ideal place for an historian. The Palace of Versailles only 25km outside of Paris holds the tale of Marie Antoinette, Louis XVI and the wealth aristocrats. Traces of the revolution can be visited at the Bastille, Pantheon, the Guillotine and at the many grave yards in Paris, home to many intellectuals and celebrities. For these many reasons Paris holds a world of interest for a girl like myself. Besides what better place to unravel life’s biggest mysteries than the city of love?

No matter what happens, how much this fast growing globe of ours transforms. We’ll always have Paris.

Now I’ve fully come to understand, Paris isn’t a city, its a world. My world.
